Up until this time we have had a tarp tacked up over this hole. Yesterday Dave got the front door put in, and it looks so nice! In case you missed out on what is going on here, we are building what we call "the apartment" in the end of our metal shop/garage. Since our house is a bit short of bedrooms when company comes, this will serve as our guest house for friends and family when they come to visit. It has been a big project - pretty much like building a little house except the outside was already finished - so no roof or siding to worry about. Last week we got the sheetrock hung then hired a man to come tape the seams. Our project the past couple days has been painting the rooms. We figure we put on 15 gallons at least - counting primer and a topcoat, in two days. We had so much paint left over from previous projects between the two of us we decided instead of buying any paint, we would use what we had and try to get rid of some paint cans. We did have to buy 5 gallons of primer, as we didn't have enough of that left over.

Here is a sample of what we had to choose from.

Dave had over 5 gallons of this color that he had painted most of the inside of the house with last year when he remodeled the house. For some reason the people who painted it way over estimated the amount that they needed - so we started with that and painted both bedrooms this "Sandpiper" color. We painted all the ceilings white - as there was enough left over from the house project to do them all.

We painted the bathroom one color of tan (you can see it through the door on the left below), and the shower room a lighter shade (you can't really tell it in the picture below but it is the door on the right). Then for the commons area, which is shown below and above, I used both these colors and blended them on the wall. I have done this technique quite a bit before and like to do it. It is not as fast as painting one color, but I think it adds a little more interest. Plus it is a good way to use up some odds and ends of paint!

There will be a stacked washer and dryer against this wall in the commons area. Also in this room there will be a sink and cabinet area for coffee maker and microwave. In the bathroom will be a toilet and sink. The shower room has a dressing area, walk in shower (no door - you walk around a wall and it will all be tiled). Off the shower/dressing room is a small sauna room. We plan to line the walls with cedar in there. There are two bedrooms, one off each side of this room.
Now we are preparing to lay the tile in the bathroom and in the shower room. Only the floor in the bathroom will be tiled- but the entire shower area and some of the walls in the shower room, as well as the floor there and in the sauna, will be tiled.

Wow it looks like it will be really nice. I had to laugh at the colors you had to choose from. Looks like you have a lot of the same taste in paint. :-)
Hope to see you soon!
Vicki
