Turtle art

I will put a few more pictures of the turtles on for our turtle fans! This might be the last turtle blog for awhile as all but one have gone to their adoptive homes. Alisa and I were creating Turtle Art here. It was a challenge to keep them in formation long enough to snap their picture as some kept wanting to run off. They look a little like a bunch of mice with their long tails!
The first comment of most people when they see the turtles in real life after seeing the pictures on the blog is, "I didn't know they were so little!" I decided I needed to put some pictures on that showed their size. As you can see, their shell is about the size of a quarter - so they really are pretty tiny! The next question is, "Do they bite?" No, they don't bite! Their mouths are too tiny to get a hold of any skin. I suppose there will be a time when they might bite, as it is their nature to snap at anything that looks like food, but it is a long way in the future for this little guy! Can they pull their head into their shell? No - they pull it back some but never into the shell. Snapping turtles either have too small a shell or too large a head to do this.

The one on the left is Alisa. The one on the right is, hmmmm, I guess he/she doesn't have a name. Any suggestions?

Alisa and I were hard up for something to do when she visited this weekend. We decided to have a turtle race. Here is the outcome. I wonder if we were having more fun than the turtles!

Just so you know we do enjoy some more culturally acceptable forms of entertainment, here is a glimpse of our Hobo Stew evening at the Hanson's last week.

Oh, you three and your turtle races! Too funny!!

And, Karen, I'm glad that you pointed out to us which one was Alisa and which one was the nameless turtle in that one picture! That would have been hard without your help! ha! ;)
