I love to see the intricate designs created by nature with no help at all from a human hand. We saw these interesting fungi growing out of a fallen log in Arkansas last week.

J and R were having a great time with a couple of bright orange little pumpkins when we visited them.

I think acorns are beautiful! Around here we don't see acorns, so when we saw an abundance of them on our trip, I wanted some to bring home. We picked up a bunch of tiny ones in Arkansas. Then on the way home through Missouri we stopped at a rest stop and the lawn was covered with these big ones. We started picking them up and could hardly stop, it was so fun. Some strangers came over and joined us picking up acorns and putting them in our bag! I think they saw we were having a great time and wanted to get in on the fun. I didn't know that they lose their "hats" so easliy - most of the nuts were separate from the rough stem parts, so we picked up an abundance of both. Sometimes there were twins and triplets - where two or three acorns all grew connected together at the top. We found a few that were sprouting, so we brought them home and planted them in some dirt. I hope we can grow some oak trees from them!
As I was admiring them one day I saw some tiny little bugs that had also hitched a ride to Wyoming...so I have them outside hoping the freezing weather will kill the bugs so I can bring them in later!

Great picture of the acorns! Such a perfect picture for this time of year, and it sounds fascinating to pick them up to bring home! :)
